Spiced Halal Lentil and Beef Patties (Shami Kebab Style)
(0 Ratings)
These Spiced Halal Lentil and Beef Patties, inspired by the South Asian Shami Kebab, are a fantastic way to stretch meat while boosting the fiber and protein content of a meal. Halal ground beef is cooked with chana dal (split chickpeas/lentils) and a heady blend of whole spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and bay leaf. The mixture is then ground, shaped into smooth patties, and shallow-fried until golden brown. They offer a unique, tender texture and a burst of savory, aromatic flavor in every bite. Perfect as a quick snack, a side dish, or served in a bun as a gourmet burger alternative.

Instructions
- 1Combine the ground beef, chana dal, ginger, garlic, red chilies, whole spices (cinnamon, bay leaf), and 1 cup of water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, until all water is absorbed and the lentils are soft (about 45 minutes).
- 2Transfer the cooked mixture to a food processor and grind until a smooth, thick paste/dough forms. Let it cool completely.
- 3Once cool, mix in the beaten egg, chopped cilantro, and garam masala. Shape the mixture into small, flat patties.
- 4Shallow-fry the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and a slight crust has formed. Serve hot with a mint-yogurt chutney.
