    Partially cook the rinsed basmati rice (about 70%) in boiling water with whole spices (cardamom, cinnamon sticks). Drain immediately.

    In the heavy-bottomed pot, spread half of the marinated chicken mixture on the bottom. Layer half of the rice on top.

    Layer the remaining chicken mixture, and then top with the remaining rice. Drizzle the saffron milk over the top layer. Garnish with fried onions and fresh herbs.

    Cover the pot tightly with foil and then the lid (to seal the steam). Cook on very low heat (dum) for 45-50 minutes. Gently mix before serving.
